I have a lot of footage to edit and I'd like to focus only on what i deem usable. I'm used to music software where you can compile a group of usable 'regions' for use in the final product. How can I create a group of edited clips from the large amount of raw clips i have now?
Well, for one thing, there's no point in capturing to your hard drive video you have no intention of using. I'd recommend reviewing your raw videotape footage and decided what you needn't bother with. If you're anything like me, you'll only capture maybe half of what you actually shoot.
Once you have your clips captured (Remember that, if you're capturing from DV, Screenblast will make a new clip every time you stopped taping), they'll appear in your Media Pool.
Unfortunately, MS3 doesn't offer a way to put these clips into folders for easy reference (Movie Studio's big brother Vegas does).
I'm not entirely clear on your question, Arco. Hope that helps.
Right, Vegas has something they call Subclips which can be stored in "bins" So this seems like the way to go for me. I can edit down to 'subclips', carefully labled and put into separate 'bins' and then create my movie from those edited subclips...cool.
i have something like 14 hours of footage to wade through.
Have a look at Media Center. It allows you to catalog and play video clips, stills and music and group them in playlists - hierarchicaly if you want. You can order them in Media Center and then drag and drop straight into MS's timeline. If you're running under XP you can also select the thumbnail to display for each clip, in fact it's the only cataloging program I've found that will display thumbnails for raw dv.
