Click the line that comes after where the new line should be and press the Insert key.

As I recall you just hit insert on your keyboard.

It's a common question because:

1. The answer is NOT in the help file (at least not through version 5).

2. No other application on earth uses the insert key as an active key. Usually it toggles the state of the over-write mode (e.g., Microsoft Word). Who would think to push the INS key??

This most definitely should be changed some day. No one knows its there, so only about ten current users would have to learn something new.

Don't use Credit Rolls now . . Use Placement in Sample Text Fx . . .easy!

Thanks,

Now I don't feel so dumb (except for not using the Search function on this forum) Thanks for the references Edward, some very good additional information there!

It's never been in any of the help files nor the manuals for any of the versions. As I and many others have been flapping about there are some things that definitely need attention in Vegas.
And just to make it clear for those who immediately assume I am talking about Vegas 6.0, I am referring to things that have been antequated, difficult or confusing to use, or a bug since the earliest versions of Vegas. Credit Rolls is one of them.

This is slightly off topic but has to do with fixing typos in a long boris credit roll.

I have a 4 minute boris credit sequence super imposed on a moving background with some other effect happening. I am finishing up a project and after waiting for a 4 - 5 hour render discovered a typo when reviewing the final disk.

I was able to fix the typo by opening the original project, placing the rendered avi file on the first video track, rendering (only the section with the typo) from the original boris effect to a new track (a 2 minute render), and then rerendering the entire credit sequence to a new avi (I think this took about 4 minutes). Problem fixed minimal (if any) quality loss.

Most of you probably already know this trick but wanted to share. Boris can be extremely long to render and this is a way to fix those nasty last minute typos.

ALSO credit roll does not allow you to mix fonts or charcter sizes. Just has the three style types. Very limited use as far as I could get to use it.

I took Grazie's advice on this a while back and I can tell you that I'll never use the credit roll again.

Do credit rolls done by moving the text in a regular text media event still have the same smoothness? I remember trying this after is was suggested a few years back and finding that the text didn't look as smooth (the motion wasn't as smooth, not the text itself).

Ok, Grazie, how does one do Placement in Text whatever?
Grazie wrote on 5/3/2005, 10:57 AM
Sorry! Took a break!

Sample Text FX. See the Placement tab? You will see the Text within the middle of the PLacement Window. You can "move" the block of Text around -and use the Key Frames - and Roll the Text by making numerical changes to the X and Y coords. Use the "minus" " - " sign in the appropriate X or Y box to get the block of Text "out" of the window - you will see an indicator ARROW informing you whence the text will come from!

The ONE draw back is that we can't SYNCH the Timeline Cursor - there IS a tempting, seductive and apealing cute little greyed out "lock" icon - but it doesn't do anything.

OK - Use the X and Y coords to place the text; if you find the trext is "flyting to fast then use increasew the length of this Text Event; you can also increase the speed of the roll by CTRL+Squash; you can also use a Velocity envelope to adjust more cleverly . .. so much to do here with Sample Text . . .

Credit Roll? Not in this house! If Credit Roll came to my front door I's say, "Credit Roll? Go! Go from my house! NO! You shall not set foot in my home!" . .. . . you get the idea I don't care much for Credit Roll?

Best regards,

Grazie
