Well, I think that the only edit you can do is to start and stop the capture in appropriate places.
Anything beyond that, you need an editing program.

Perhaps you can describe what you want to accomplish in some more detail.

Yes, there is, it is called Batch Capture. The following info should help:

Batch capture

1. If you have not already done so, connect your video camera to your video capture card using the cable provided with the card or camera and use the AC adapter not the battery. Put the tape to be captured in the camcorder. NB: rewind the tape. S et the camcorder to playback.
2. Do this before starting Movie Studio. A dialog window may display. If it does, click Take no action then click OK.
3. Start the Sony Vegas Movie Studio Program. When the Show Me window displays click Close.
4. In the Media Pool tab, click the Capture Video button. The Sony Video Capture window will open.
5. The Verify Tape Name dialog box will display. Type a name for the tape. Click on the button in front of Don’t capture any clips right now, then click Ok.
6. Click Video (a menu item). Click Microsoft DV Camera and VCR (or the input device you are using).
7. Click Options (a menu item), then Preferences, then Disk Management.
8, Click Add Folder. The Browse For Folder dialog box will open.
9. Browse to the hard drive letter. (That will be C: if you have only one HD or some other letter if you have two.) And click on it to select it; it will turn blue.
10. Click Make New Folder. Type a name for the folder, press the Enter key then click OK. The Preference window will show.
11. Remove any checks except the one preceding the new folder; click Apply then click OK.
12. The preview window will display Device Stopped.
13. Click Advanced Capture then rewind the tape.
14. Click the play icon or press the space bar. The tape will start and the picture will show in the preview window.
15. At the beginning of the wanted clip click the Pause icon or press the Enter key.
16. Locate the exact beginning frame of the clip: Place the mouse cursor on the Shuttle button, (to the right of the transport controls) hold down the left button and move the button left or right to shuttle the tape backward or forward to find the beginning frame you want for the start of the clip.
17. Click on the Timecode in icon to the right of the Timecode in box or press the i key.
18. Play the tape to the end of the clip, pause and click the Timecode out icon to the right of the Timecode out box or press the o key.
19. Click the Log In/Out icon.
20.. Repeat steps 14 through 19 for each clip.
21. When all the clips are logged click Batch Capture, just above the clip window. The Batch Capture list window will display.
22. Uncheck any clip you don’t want captured then click OK; the tape will rewind and capture will begin.
23. When the capture is complete the Capture Complete window will display; click Done. Drag any clip from the Media Pool to the timeline and save the project to save the captured clips.

Hope this helps,

Ken
