Editing image events to audio "beat"

A 15 minute 16 MM film is being converted to 24 FPS HD video, but I don't have the final transfer in hand so I can't do any testing for this idea yet. I'll be doing the work in 10.0E or later. I JUST upgraded from 8.0E so am checking out additional features in 10.

When the original montage film was made it was all camera film cut to the timing of some rock music. (The original music is being remastered.)

During original editing a film clip sometimes wouldn't be quite the length I needed to do the cut as I wanted relative to the beat. The footage is a variety of scenes, most all of which could be slightly slowed or accelerated with no negative impact.

I am imagining placing markers on the timeline for all the major cut locations relative to the music, splitting any image track needing stretching or compression and adjusting it to fall on the beat.

I'm thinking out the workflow and would appreciate know if this seems OK or if I'm going about it wrongheaded.

- Insert a split at both the head and tail of a scene needing tweaking

- slip the section to the right of the work area to give some working room

- stretch the end of the scene to the desired point (this is probably a matter of 2 to 8 frames)

- drag the remaining part of the film video back to the new end point of the adjusted scene.

----------------

I imagine that I should make sure it is set to not create intermediate frames which I believe just inserts duplicates as needed.

Any comments on this workflow or options would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Wayne

PS. How the heck can I set the Forum so I get an email when someone responds to a posting I am participating in????

This is one instance where posting this topic on the SCS Vegas 'video' forum may be better, some are music video pros and can likely help you.

Actually that's where I posted it last month. Under "Adjust video events to audio track beat. . ."

Is this really this unusual or is it that stupid a question? Or maybe the question isn't clear enuf?

BTW, with the Sony Forums is there a way to get an email when someone responds to a posting? I have looked multiple time and have my emails prefs set up but not notifications. Maybe I'll ask for private emails since it is difficult to keep up with postings.

Thanks much for the response and apologies for my tardiness.
