Editing using the "takes" feature

I've just finished my first edit in Vegas. I previously did all my editing in RexRT but bought VV4 for the ability to work with multiple tracks.
I tried to use the 'takes' feature, but couldn't find a way to sync up the takes since I couldn't move the files independently once they were on the timeline. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I was working with 4 tracks and the approach I used was to view 4 PIP's in an external monitor, select my takes, then copy and paste them to the highest track as I went along. Very similar to the approach I used in Rex.
I'd like to know how others approach multi-track editing in VV4. (I'm aware of Marty Hedlers approach, but that doesn't work for me.) I'm also curious if anyone is using the 'takes' method and how they approach it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

To sync the takes stacked on a single event, you can try using the alt-drag "slip" feature... it may be helpful to get the sync tight on separate tracks and get the starting frame-number of each, then stack and slip the takes to match.

Got a chance to work with the tutorial. Thanks very much for the link which describes how to sync up the takes. This opens lots of possibilities. Thanks again. This is a nice tool.
