Hi, my name is Scott Chapin and I have been trying to do something with Vegas for some time, mabye someone could help me out?

Here is my problem:

I am editing video in Vegas, and I want to pause the video for a givrn amount of time on one frame just like is seen in movies, when something scary happens, and everything stops. But music keeps playing and there could be some animation elsewhere on the screen. I need this simple aid that I can not figure out how to do. Thanks for your help.

Scott

Scott,
Find the frame you want to freeze on.
Set Preview window to Best/Full
Click the Save Snapshot to file button in the preview window. (looks like floppy disc) This will create a still image/frame.
Insert the frame at the point you want the freeze, and you'll have it. You'll find the new still/frame in your Media Pool, or you can browse to where you saved it at. Be sure to hit Refresh in your Explorer window before browsing for it.
You'll need to split your file where the freeze occurs using the S key, so that you'll have a place to insert the still image.
Duyuh! As Edward pointed out, you can also insert a velocity filter. That's the simplest solution for most uses. You'll still be able to drag.
Sometimes the most simple things are the least obvious.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Insert a velocity envelope. At the point you want it to freeze, change the velocity to 0%.
