editing video

I am editing two lines of video.Any ideas on how to do this other than split and insert.Thanks.

1) Place the trimmed cutaway on a video track above the main track, or
2) Place the trimmed cutaway on the main track, or
3) there are a few others.

You could Solo one of the tracks and Split the tracks where you want the change to take place, then Solo the other track to where you want that change to be, and Split. And so on.
