Editing video speed while maintaining a SPLIT in a clip

Hi all,

I'm using Vegas Pro 13, Windows 10, 64 bit. So I'm trying to edit the speed of a video using the "Insert/Remove Envelope -> Velocity" tool.

Important to note - I have split a section of the clip off the end which I want to keep at standard speed with audio in line.

I'm encountering a problem, where the first split section (the one I'm speeding up) plays through sped up all fine, but it plays until the end of the initial clip (including the part I split off the end - here is my problem!) and then once finished leads into the latter part which plays with audio. (So essentially, the part I split off at the end to play normal speed with audio plays through twice - once with the sped up part (even though it had been split off!) and then once through normally where shown.

I have dragged the video clip length to the first pointer so it plays through once, but it is obviously using the initial "un-split" clip as the source for the sped up section and not the actual section I have intentionally split off..

Does anyone know how I can get around this please? Perhaps something to do with the "Trimmer" tool to effectively make them 2 seperate clips altogether?

P.s - I'm aware of the Ctrl+DRAG option but this does not speed up the video enough and I need to use the Velocity tool to get enough speed in there!

Hope someone can help me out!!

Cheers

Smudge

You need to either TRIM the end of the sped up event so it matches your original outpoint or make a SUBCLIP of the event and speed it up.

What you are experiencing is normal. When you speed up a event using VELOCITY, it does not adjusts the length of the event. It retains the original length of the event on the timeline. If you use Ctrl-Drag it adjusts the length of the event at the same time.
