Editing without lengthening

Hi,

This is driving me crazy. If I delete, say 30 seconds in the middle of a segment, and then want to join the two pieces, I keep getting a lengthening effect. How do I just move an eitire end segment over and have the entire segment move, timewise? I've tried draging and CTRL draging, ripple on, ripple off, etc. Each time I go to check the time on the end of the segment and it hasn't moved.

Thanks,

Dan

You must be grabbing the right edge of the event you wish to butt up against the left event? If you just grab the event in the middle of it, it should slide to the left, joining the other event. If ripple is on, everything downstream (later in time) will slide to the left with the moved media. If you grab the edge vs grabbing the middle of an event, it will lengthen or shorten depending on the direction you move it.
You can also double click between 2 events in the empty/deleted space, turn on Ripple, and press Delete. The events will be joined with no fear of missing a frame, and all downstream events will move with the joined event.
