Editting Qeuries

Have just completed my first bit of video editting (Windows XP and VF 2.0c) and am very impressed. After struggling with Premier 5 it was a breeze. I have just two minor problems.
a. I have two hard drives. VF is on the C drive and my 60 Gb D drive is used to hold all the video clips. I have to set the D drive (in Capture Prefernces) before I start capture otherwise it defaults to the C drive. How can I set the D drive to be the permanent preference for storing clips when capturing video.

b. When editting, how can I slide the clips to the right along the timeline so I can insert a clip I forgot to put in right at the start.

a] While in the "Capture" programme, click on Options>Preferences> select "Disk Management" tab and Voila!

In this menu you can add or delete or create new Capture folders for Capture etc etc. You can leave "old" folders there and just Check mark those you want or not. Easy peasy!

Oh!... on re-reading your post you say you are doing this. Where exactly are you doing this? I've got 2 external firewire drives - F and G [D is my DVD drive] - and I have to make sure that F and G are connected in strick order, otherwise F becomes G and its a mess! Is D a separate external drive? Sorry can't help any further. At this point I'm showing my ignorance..... you appear to be doing the correct thing... are you actually "check-marking" the D drive as your Capture preference? If you've got C and D as your prefered Capture drives then maybe VF is getting its underwear in a twist? If you have try de-selecting C as the capture option. Dunno....

b] CORRECTION: Using the Ripple Edit option removes the space previously taken up by a clip you've removed - it will not allow dropping of clips in to move things to the right - ONLY if you Copy/Paste them into the Insert point. I guess you've spotted that one? One way is to Lasso [ - using the Selection Edit tool - ] the whole project and move it to the right - others have their own approach. Yeah, "Select All" might select everything, but it does not make the selection a movable group...

The way I move everything is to select the first clip on the timeline (use the shift key and hit multiple tracks (overlay, music, etc), then rick click and choose the select to end option. Everything gets highlighted and then I can slide all to the right. You can also group things but then you have to remember to ungroup. Hope this helps.

Thankyou for the advice. Grazie, you asked about how I was doing the selection of the appropriate drive. I am going into "Capture" Options> Preferences> Disk Management and selecting find both C and D are checked. I have removed the check from C and there is a check in D. (If I remeber correctly I have even deleted C completely) Videofactory does the right thing when I capture, ie the capture goes to D, however if I exit the program and come back both C and D drives are again checked and it does the capture to C.

This is weird. Maybe another member can give us advice from where VF gets its default settings when it is openned, fresh each time.
