EDL generation from a switcher?

This isn't exactly a scripting question, but this might be the right crowd to bounce this idea off of.

I am wondering if anyone has heard of a way to generate an EDL from a live switcher? My church has a Panasonic WJ-MX50 with an RS232 comm port. I still haven't found an answer whether or not the switcher sends a signal or only receives it for control.

But let's say for a moment that it does send a control signal out of the switcher that gives info on what source it's on at any given time, type of wipe pattern, etc, etc, etc.

What I hope to accomplish is this: I do a live mix of three camcorders anywhere from 100-200 feet away. I use dual-coax video lines for my S-Video signal, which decreases the signal loss, but I still get a large amount. What I want to do is do a live switch, record video in each of the camcorders, then "magically" take the switching that I did directly into Vegas Video so I can do the exact same switching in post. If I could somehow develop a program that would take the output from the switcher and convert it into even a simplified an EDL, that would be terrific. Does anyone know of such a solution?

Any other ideas to help me out here? I can live (and have lived) with the degraded signal... just recorded the switched video, but I would love to be able to tweak the switching (in case I made a mistake) and also have the benefit of having a much better video source from recording in the cameras.

You might be better off running that "broadcast blue coaxial cable" between the cameras and the switcher. Even though it is composite video you will probably get a very clean signal if you use that stuff.

Another thing to try is a video amp at the camera end.

I know nothing about writing scripts...
