Effect Woes

After several hours, I was just wondering how hard I could make something :(
Apparently, pretty hard! I'm trying to do what should be quite simple, I'm sure. I want to make a selection (I assume with the cookie cutter), then blur everything outside of the selection. The mask generator may come into play also, but obviously I don't know. There has to be a way to get rid of the black surrounding the cookie cutter selection. It would take all of 5 seconds in PhotoShop! Any help please? Thanks. Cin

This one is a bit more complex than it seems that it should be, but still easy enough to accomplish. The trick is that you have to duplicate the event, placing a second copy on the track below. The cookie cutter then specifies which area of the top track you want to see. Then add a blur to the lower event which then shows around the area specified by the cookie cutter. Adding a bit of feather to the cookie cutter will help blend the blurred area into the sharp area.
