This is exactly what I do. I used Pinnacle Studio 11 just for the stabilize effect. (Still baffles me why Vegas doesn't have this, but I wont get started on that here.) (;
Just highlight the clip section you want to add the effect, export to .avi, import into the "other" program, add the effect, export to high resolution .avi and back into studio.

Well in Vegas Pro, which supports scripting, I use the free Deshaker script made by the very fine Mr John Meyer. I also use several 3rd party stabilizing products. It would appear you have reached the edge of what is available for you in Vegas Movie Studio. Time to Upgrade - maybe? SONY have variations of Vegas to fit the wallets/pockets of those using it. As I said, in the Pro version of Vegas one DOES, have access to a script that makes a very fine and successful result for stabilization.
So, don't be "baffled" any longer. Added to which you WOULD have further access to the hundreds of scripts and even further 3rd party "Extensions" that those using Vegas Pro use daily!
BTW? Have you seen the huge discount available to you as a registered Vegas Movie Studio user to upgrade to VP9?
I've outgrown the 4 track limitation in Studio a while back, and have since upgraded to Vegas Pro 9 (before the discount). I use the VirtualDub deshaker plugin though, IMHO, it's still a little convoluted. One good thing about not having deshaker or a stabilizer function in Vegas is, it has made me very conscious about camera technique, and try to get the original shots as steady as possible. (:
IMHO and FWIW, I'm quite disappointed that Sony Movie Studio line is severely lacking as far as what features the competition is offering in the same and lower price ranges. I.e. basic effects like stabilization in Pinnacle. I was looking at Corel MovieStudio Pro X2 (online price lowered to $60 at one point was down to $49 before Christmas) which has a lot of feature that are not included in Vegas Studio like drawing an animated line, seven (7) video tracks and lots of cheezy eye candy stuff. Corel also has a proxy function built in for handling larger AVCHD files.
That's a saving of $115 (600 - 485), roughly a 19% discount. It is something but it will be nice if Sony can do better than that. I saw 25-75% discounts in a lot of things (softwares included) lately (maybe it was holiday season?). And these were for full prices, not upgrades.
I saw some Vegas Pro 9 OEM for really good prices. The claims are that they are fully working retail versions, but without the box and manuals. There will be no tech support. I can probably do without the manuals or tech supoort but I could be wrong. The main question I have is that since the prices are so good, are they simply scams? Anyone have any experience with OEM apps?
:=) Sorry if that sounds like a lot of work trying to save a few hundred bucks. But I would like to have some money left to buy other things to use in conjunction with Vegas Pro. A tight budget year.
Other than installation help, tech support isn't included even with a full purchase directly from SONY. If you have any questions about a particular OEM supplier you could email the information to SONY's customer support and they should be able to tell you if it's a legitimate reseller or not.
If SCS says your reseller is legit, please post the link.

I missed it. I wish that was the price intended, that Sony would extend a special one time offer and let everyone who are ready to go Pro to upgrade at a low price. This is a tough time for the customers and a lot of software makers have responded by offering amazing deals, even to new customers.
I am still waiting for the answer regarding the OEM reseller...
Sony Customer Service told me that the OEM reseller was not an authorized vendor and advised against buying from it. So there goes a great deal.
I did get a link to get an additional discount which brings the upgrade price to $388. So unless anyone else know of a better price, I think I will take it. What do you think?
