Embarrassing Question

Sorry, I don't mean to be such a cherry/nubie here, but...
Opening to the main GUI, Video Preview and the Mixer used to be placed side by side. I was playing with different selections under View on the tool bar and now the Video Preview and the Mixer are tabbed at the bottom. I have to either select one or the other to view them. They’re no longer side-by-side. I've been trying to get it back for days and getting nowhere.

Please, can someone take pity on a cherry/nubie and tell me how to do this?

Thanks

Hiyah!

Ok .. If you grab a window using the vertical dots .. left edge, and drag to the right of a docked window, you'll get them to dock side by side .. just done it to confirm.

To reset the GUI to its default setting:

Exit Vegas, if it is running, then press and hold the Ctrl & Shift keys while starting Vegas.

This will reset the GUI and ALL options and preferences to their factory defaults.

. . .also, if you do a grab and move the window LEFT, that will do the tabbed thing - yeah?

From my point of view, not such a silly question.

I happen to prefer the tabbed view but that aside there seems to be no set procedure (using V 4 here) to get this or your way to happen.

In V 4 you grab the thin vertical line/dimple on the left side of the window and drag it out of the dockable area so it is on it's own then grab it's title bar and "for me" trial and error drag it back to the dockable area until you get the view you are looking for.

A little common sense seems to play a part here. You would size the dockable tabs appropriately so when you drag the window back in it either ends up tabbed or a separate window in the dockable area.

MJ - you're quite correct . . not a silly question at all .. I'd also like to guard against going straight to the Facory Defaults . .. 'cos it does exactly what it says . .and for me I'd have to reset all sorts of things - PAL here! The other thing is that there ios this simple and effective solution too .. once learnt can provide more functionality to the whole editing experience.

Now with the ability of saving up to 10 Workspaces - I just Alt+D > number .. to get a workspace for: Primary Media collection and collation; wide view for Previewing; Focus for Audio; Focus for 2 screen timeline . .etc etc etc . .. .

No, not a silly question .. .welcome aboard,

You can also get my layout icon pckage at the following adress :

http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/help/kb/kb_scripts.asp

This will allow you to add 10 icons (or less) to the vegas toolbar to switch between views, very useful and the icons match the vegas GUI pretty well.

Just so ya know...

This forum is unlike other forums in that no question is considered too silly . Fact is, if you don't know how to do anything, just ask. You'll get people who are glad to help ya.

All we ask is you tell people about how great the Sony Vegas software is. Spread the word and welcome.

"no question is considered too silly."

Well, just one disclaimer to that statement. Don't ask us how to remove vocals from a mixed piece of music or extract vocals by themselves. That one will catch you grief in one form or another everytime. Other than that, shoot away, always willing to help out.
