Encoding WMV for Media Player 6.x

Hello,

I am editing with Vegas 4 on an XP workstation. I need to render WMV files for NT 4 workstations running MS Media Player 6. Can't find the encoder by searching around on the MS web sites. No luck looking through MSDN cd sets. I found a reference to Windows Media Toolkit 4.1 but it doesn't turn up as a download anywhere.

Where to get this encoder quickly? Upgrading the Media Player on the workstations isn't an option right now due to change management approval.

Thanks,

Chip Gallo

Vegas can render to .wmv. Is there a specific reason you need to use a different tool? Are you desiring to output .asf? Please elaborate.

The WMV file Vegas creates (WMV 8) won't play on these workstations because they have the Microsoft Media Player 6.4 on them. The codec cannot be automatically updated to a modern version. I am looking for an encoder that will either show up in the selection menu when I go to render from Vegas, or a stand-alone encoder that can render an .avi file to a .wmv compatible with Media Player 6.
