Encoding .wmv9 Video in Vegas 7.0a

I recently rendered a 23 minute video to a .wmv9 (Windows Media HD format) file and was surprised to see that the resulting file size was 16 GB! When I rendered a virtually identical projects to .wmv9 in Vegas 6 using the exact same template, the file sizes were under 2 GB. I also noticed that rendering the 32 minute project to wmv9 in Vegas 7 required 9 hr. 26 min using a Xeon dual 3.6 GHz processor machine. Rendering similar projects of similar length to the same wmv9 template in Vegas 6 required approximately 5 hrs. What is going on with rendering to .wmv9 in Vegas 7.0a? Has anyone else experienced similar problems rendering to the .wmv9 format?

As others on this forum have noted, renders to 5.1 ac3 files take forever in Vegas 7.0a and do not appear to be correct. Vegas 7.0a seems to have some significant rendering problems, and I would hope that Sony is pushing forard aggressively to solve these render problems introduced in Vegas 7. It is hard to understand how problems as significant and obvious as these could have gotten through the Vegas 7 beta test procedures.

I never take a project that has any complexity straight to Windows Media format--mainly because it renders errors (some of the sequences within the timeline seem to get rendered squeezed--as though they are rendered square pixels while the rest is rectangular). This has existed for years and has never been fixed.

Instead, I render to DV AVI. These always turn out clean and render very fast. I then render the AVI file with the Windows Media Encoder to produce my final output (usually for web distribution). The WME has also historically produced much better images in a much shorter time period.

I can also open a new project and import the rendered AVI file and quickly render to other formats much quicker.

Even though it is a double render, it may work out much quicker and cleaner for you.

Does anyone else use this approach, or has had this same bug?

Which WMV9 template do you like for web distribution? For DVD?
