Enter time manually

Is there a way to enter time manually? Attempting to adjust the length of tranistions and other time dependent things is tedious at best. For example, I would like all the tranisitions to be 5 seconds,. How do I do that? I would like a picture to be 25 frames long. How do I do that? I have scanned this group, Google, the manual, and Spotted Eagle's Vegas 5 Editing Workshop. All seem to describe adjusting by using the curser, locking on, and moving the item from side to side. I need more precise control. Besides for me it's quicker.

Thanks.

There is no way to do it as easily as you describe (i.e., just enter the length and have it change) but there are three ways to accomplish this in addition to just dragging:

1) You can change the event length and crossfade in your preferences before you drop your images into Vegas. This sets their default length and crossfade to your preference settings. Use Options > Preferences > Editing and then change the New still image length (seconds) value and the Cut-to-overlap conversion / Amount (seconds) value to the length you desire.

2) If you need to change a bunch of images you can use a script like Set Event Length And Crossfade to adjust them after they are on the timeline. It will make all the selected events the same length with the same crossfade amount

3) If you are just doing one or two, you can use the selection tool to help you get accurate results. Just make a small selection that starts where your event or crossfade starts. Then at the bottom right corner of the timeline there are three time readouts. The one on the far right is the selection length. Double-click on it and it becomes and entry field. Manually enter the exact length you want and the selection will be that length. Now go back to the timeline and use the selection as a guide to make the event or transition the exact length (it should snap to the selection to help you)
