Entire project audio suddenly is "mute"

Larry M. Gibson wrote on 5/16/2013, 8:12 PM
New computer - very well equipped. Edited several small projects with perfect results. Mixed first version and (thankfully) saved it. 5 minute promo video to be shown at a national convention this Sunday (May 19, 2013).

Client has first version. I saved it as - and started to continue. After 10 hours of synchronizing interviews (Zoom H2) and adding stills and short clips. Suddenly, I accidently hit one of the two buttons on mouse, and all audio is silenced. I tried muting and unmuting every track. I tried "master" mute in options. I closed project and re-opened all previous projects, including the earlier version of this one) - they all had good audio.

After a few hour sleep, I tried again, and now none of my projects will play the audio. I started a new project with audio and it won't play.

I am considering uninstalling and re installing Vegas Pro 10e.

Very frustrated. Thanks, if anyone can help

In Options Menu, is "Mute All Audio" selected?
or
Try selecting all audio events on all tracks [Edit Menu | Select All], right click and select "Switches" in the menu - maybe "Mute" is selected? - if so, Mute should be deselected.
or
Is the correct soundcard selected?
or
is the correct output of your soundcard selected (if it supports multiple outputs) in the Mixer Master channel?

Thanks for reply. I just posted system. I will check this all out.

I checked "mute all audio" It is not selected. Toggled and tried both ways.
I found "switches". Not selected - Toggled and tried both ways.
My ASUS motherboard has built-in sound card. Sound works for all other applications.
When I click the sound icon in the tray, volume control comes up, click mixer and 3 device applications show up: Speakers, System sounds, and Vegas Pro 10. The first 2 show outputs, but Vegas Video is greyed out. When I close Vegas and play other outputs (Media Player, etc., ) It shows up with that device and plays audio. Makes me think it is only a Vegas proiblem. If I re-install Vegas, can I load all my existing files or will I have to recapture them in real time? (HDV)

Thanks

I re-checked old projects and all are working ok with full audio. I opened 2 new projects, one with DV settings and one with HDV settings. Both work and have good audio. I guess I will start with thye good one I have and make a better one. One really dumb thing I can probably figure out myself; the new projects have white blanks instead of displaying audio waveforms. I really need the waveforms to synchronize sound, so I will figure that one out.

I guess somewhwere in that project I flipped a setting. I will keep looking and thanks again for the help I have received and will receive.

Silly question -- have you got it muted in the mixer?
Larry M. Gibson wrote on 5/16/2013, 9:46 PM
I checked the mixer. tried all settings as indicated in one of my previous replies - thanks for asking. I'm trying everything.

also check you don't have a Solo button selected somewhere in the mixer...

when you press Play, do any meters on the Mixing Console show any signal?

... or the fader on the Master pulled down.. Or a plugin on the Master with it's output level right down or muted ?

Have you checked your selected playback device in Options|Preferences|Audio Devices ?

geoff

As an audio guy, I was reading about my problem on the forum and I thought I should check to see if I had "soloed" and empty track, which would have effectively muted everything.

When I re-opened the project, the first thing I checked was the solo buttons - it appeared to not be the case, but the next time I hit play, all the audio was back.

Thanks to everyone who suggested things to check. You were a great help.

I just took my PDF file to the printer to get a printout of the 535 page manual. (guess I'm a book guy at heart)

Thanks again. Problem resolved!
