I am having troubles with DVD Arch. today. After making DVD's for over a year now I am getting this error message and the program crashes. Have tried 5 time today and still the same thing keeps happening.

If anyone has an idea as to what is goingon please email me at jkerry@charter.net

I need this problem solved as I am on a time frame for a couple of projects.

Tks,

Jeff Kerry

That error message probably won't be any good other than to someone who has a hand in actually programming DVDA. Since none of them are going to read and answer posts here (you'll have to e-mail Sony directly for anything like that), you're going to have to give us more information if you want any help.

When do you get this error?

When you start DVDA, before you even add any files to the project?

When you add any file to the project? When you add a particular file to the project? What kind of file? Where did it / they come from?

When you start to prepare the DVD files? Same questions as above.

When you try burning the DVD? Are you using the same media you've always used? Were all five failures with the same disc, or different discs?

Do you get this error with all projects you try, or just a certain one? Have you added any new software to your system or made any significant changes since the last time you were able to succesfully do what ever you're trying to do now (which leads to an error)?

The fastest resolving of this would be to reinstall DVDA

The fastest resolving of this would be to reinstall DVDA.

But not until you follow the advice given in the first post.

Actually, I would recommend a three step approach, where step three is the recommendation to re-install.

1. Try to open a previous project that hasn't been changed and which worked. This will help test as to whether the problem is caused by a corrupt file. Almost any application can be crashed under certain circumstances if you feed it a file that is corrupt in some way.

2. Reset the preferences. You can reset ALL settings to factory default by pressing and holding the shift key (or is it Ctrl and Shift together?) the next time you start DVDA. It is possible that some preference got glitched.

3. Uninstall, then re-install DVDA.

First:

The error shows up when there is approx 40 - 60% completet.

The files added are all AVI format rendered in Vegas. The same way I have done it for over a year. I even rendered them in MPEG2 format and got the same results.

Tried different media each time thinking it might be the disc.

Have tired 3 other projects which did not have the error, and then the error showed up again.

Have done a reinstall and got the same results.

Went even one step more, I did a complete hard reinstall, used the original software disc from HP and started with the system which I first purchased. (Talk about time used). Still the same results. No other software but what came with the system and Vegas and DVD current versions installed.

So, I am at a total loss now as to which way to turn.

Sounds like it may be hardware (failing DVD burner).

Also, have you contacted Sony tech support (link at the top of this page)?

user32.dll (where the exception error is apparently coming from) is a module that contains Windows API functions related the Windows user interface (Window handling, basic UI functions, and so forth).

You may need to isolate the problem more to understand how the error crept in

For the drive
- render to hard disk and use a different program to copy the content to the DVD drive (don't forget to format the media as a UDF so DVD players can read the contents)
- Borrow a USB2 DVD burner and try that

DVDA
- You said you reinstalled... did you uninstall first? An full uninstall should remove all the DVDA files rather than trust the MSI to recognize and fix a file that may look okay but isn't

Windows
Since the error is originating from an OS file you may want to try the following
- Update your video driver
- Do a Window repair (boot your original Windows CD)
- Boot in safe mode and see if it works from there
- Run full virus and anti-spyware scans.

I hope this helps.
