Error activating VEGAS Effects via VEGAS Pro

I'm receiving an error code -17 while trying to activate VEGAS POST's VEGAS Effects. Official instructions state to drop footage into VEGAS Pro 17's timeline, right click, select 'Edit in VEGAS Effects, and it SHOULD prompt the activation wizard. Unfortunately that's not happening. Here's the error I'm getting.

Tried running as admin, non-admin, and on two completely different networks. I registered my serial number successfully to my account, too.

If I open VEGAS Effects, it thinks it's the demo version and there's no way to prompt an activation through the program. We have to do it through V17.

Anybody have any ideas or facing the same problem? MAGIX Support, can you look into this?

YOu have to make sure you enter the Vegas Post Product Key for Vegas Pro, and if you have another Key, for Vegas Pro, it won't unlock the other two included programs, Vegas Effects and Vegas Image. So if you have had another version of Vegas Pro 17 (non Post) it will default to that product key and you need to not just hit "OK" to activate, but replace that code. Since you've already installed, go to help menu and choose "deactivate on this computer" and then close and reopen, and put in the correct code. This is a "best guess." You may have something else going on.

Thanks! I'll give that a shot. I just uninstalled and removed every single trace of VEGAS off my PC and logged into magix support and deactivated my pc. Currently downloading the VEGAS POST package which included VEGAS 17, Effects, and Image (MAGIX bandwith is terrible atm. Only getting 600KBps download speed) and going to follow the activation again with my new S/N and see how that goes. I'll keep you and everyone else updated.

@zdogg gave you the correct answer. You have to use the VEGAS POST serial for your activation of VP17. At the moment EFFECTS and IMAGE use the VEGAS codec activation (like in the VEGAS POST tutorial by Gary). Please give us some feedback

Alright I got it working. I was too far into my process to try zdogg's method but after I uninstalled all traces of VEGAS using Geek Uninstaller (it deleted the registry files and everything), I reinstalled the complete VEGAS POST package, I activated V17 with the VEGAS POST S/N, and successfully was able to activate VEGAS Effects via V17's timeline. We're all good!

Actually, I did it the way you just did, (complete reinstall) but you CAN do it by simply DEACTIVATING (from help menu) Vegas Pro, and then you will be prompted to enter the serial number on re-opening the program, and you can simply enter the Vegas Post number at that point.

I am having the Vegas post demo version issue. I tried everything mentioned above, even tried uninstalled via geek uninstaller. I perhaps made the error not deactivating my original vegas 17 edit (which I cancelled within 30 days) I thought it was enough to uninstall the original vegas 17. Now I am stuck with the demo version.

Just purchased POST 365. I uninstalled vegas pro 17 and dvd arch. Then installed POST. I cannot get vegas effects to start up and get an error message. Then it asks to replace the media or cancel. Then I tried vegas effects stand alone to see if anything started. Splash screen comes up, then shuts down. Any help on this would be great. P.s. already tried the things mentioned. Also noted here is that vegas image works fine.

This is now happening with Vegas Post 18 too...still no resolution.
