Error: Audio proxy file has been truncated

I've recently transfered a DVCAM tape to disk, and on loading it into Vegas 5 (PC), soon after the software begins to build its audio peaks, I get the following error:

An error occurred while creating a proxy file for a stream.
The format of the stream is not consistent throughout the file.
The audio proxy file has been truncated at the point where the audio stream format changed for the following media file:
-------------

I subsequently find that the audio drops out on regular occassions, and in places is different to what I hear on the original DVCAM file.

Can anyone shed any light on the problem, and how I might fix it?

What capture app did you use?

Microsoft Movie Maker. But shouldn't all capture software work the same, after all, ithey're just transfering data?

All capture apps do not work the same. Please try with Vegas' built in capture app- the problem you reprorted should go away.

That did the trick. Clearly not all capture software are created equal.

All,

Just got Movie Studio for Christmas ... I reviewed most of the major packages available ... and it seems to work really well ... until I started to import some older video that I wanted to "improve".

I received the same audio trunctation error ... Importing an AVI file that was created using Windows Movie Maker.

I understand that there may be some good technical reason for not being able to import the file (format change) ... but, the file plays fine (in Media player), and the file works well on DVD ... So I think it would be really nice if Sony would upgrade their software to help us out ...

What think you all?
