Error during compilation of movie for blu-ray disc

DT9b wrote on 6/11/2010, 10:00 AM
I have VMS 9.0b; after 12 hrs of rendering of the video and audio I received an error message during compilation (after about 52% complete) :

Filename: STREAM/00001.m2ts
status: TSWrapper.dll:: CTSWrapper::ProThreadMain: failed to read ES file. - ES file maybe shorter than the size described in the MUI file.

I did not use the STREAM/00001.m2ts file in my project. What is the meaning of the error message and how do I correct the problem?

Thank you!

I find this very interesting, so I'll be watching this thread. I have no experience myself with blu-ray burning, but rendering times of 12 hours seem much too long, unless you haved loaded your project with lots of effects and transitions.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I have the main video, with some overlay video; 25 chapter markers; approximately 60 transitions that are mostly short duration dissolve transitions or fades; text for each chapter; and some overlay audio (with fade in/out that are included in the count of 60 transitions). It's basically a string of 25 short (some very short; between 1minute and 15 minutes) m2ts videos.

Is 60 transitions excessive?

I can live with the 12 hour rendering time (12 is for Blu-ray; DVD is much less about 5 to 6 hours for the same movie if I remember correctly) but I really need to know what this error during compilation means so I can finish my project.

Thank you!

I have been trying to get an answer to this problem for a while now with no luck. I'm ready to get rid of the program. I hope you have better luck getting answers than I did.

Fisher615, thanks for responding; at least I know that I'm not the only one with this issue.

Sony support suggested that I process the movie in the trial version of VMS 10; but they didn't explain why that would work any better than VMS 9b. I've asked them to explain but I may go ahead and try it tomorrow. I asked Sony Support to at least explain to me what an ES file and a MUI file are; as it may give me a clue as to what the problem is. Hopefully they will respond soon.

I'll certainly post what I find out.

Thank you!

I did some editing to my movie, and then I did as Sony suggested; I processed the movie in the trial VMS10 and burned the Blu-ray disc from the trial DA 5. It worked. I've reported this to Sony and have asked for any insight that they can provide as to why the issue occurred in my VMS9b. Later on today I will try to process the edited version of my movie in my VMS9b to see if I inadvertently corrected the issue by the edits that I made. I'll update this after I hear back from Sony and after I try it again on my VMS9b.

How long was the processing time in v10?
DT9b wrote on 6/15/2010, 12:35 PM
I'm not certain because I rendered the movie overnight but to my surprise it was about 6 hours; I started at 10:15 pm and checked at 4:15 am and it had finished rendering. Then it was another 45 min to complete the burn after I prepared the menu. So my editing must have deleted something that had been slowing down the processing.

You may want to work this issue through the Sony Creative Software support site http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/support/; the link is in the help menu of VMS. Sony provided me with this information just a few moments ago:

After speaking with members of our Development team, I have been informed that the problem you are experiencing with the error:

"Filename: STREAM/00001.m2ts
status: TSWrapper.dll:: CTSWrapper::ProThreadMain: failed to read ES file. - ES file maybe shorter than the size described in the MUI file."

is related to a bug in that build of the software. As I have been able to receive this confirmation, I have been authorized to provide you with a free upgrade to the Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 software (including the DVD Architect Studio 5.0 software).

Dt9b thank you for your post. I will try your suggestion hopefully I will have the same result. Thanks again.
