error: file format plugin not properly intialized

I'm a new user of vegas... 4.0. Havent even edited anything. I tried to import .mov files. Got this message:"The Sonic Foundry Quick time plug in was not able to initialize the Quick time components in your system. It appears quick time for windows is not properly installed." A followup message says: "The film format plugin for the specified file format was not propery intialized."
I have re-installed quicktime. I have re-installed vegas video 4.0.
Any ideas?!

Did you install the authoring components?

thx for replying... What are authoring components? Essentially what I tried to do was import .mov files from a cd disc. and up came the error message? I have vegas video on another computer, and I am able to import the .mov files. But the computer I'm planning to use as my editing system won't let me import these media files.

Run the quicktime install. Choose "Custom" and pick EVERYTHING.

Also copy the files to your hard drive first instead of importing directly from the CD.

@jetdv I can't find quickTime with "Authoring Components". Can you share it?

@xcxz-a It's a checkbox option during the install process. As I said 19 years ago... Choose "Custom" and pick EVERYTHING. Part of "everything" is the authoring components.
