Hmmm.....that's an oddity. You might want to do a repair install of Vegas just for kicks.
Have you ever had a scanner installed that used a Twain driver? I'm wondering if Vegas is searching based on an old driver.

It was this very error message that caused me to research my Windows folders and search my hard disk for all occurances of Twain*.dll. The work-around I found fixed two problems in one fell swoop.

Is the Twain_32.dll in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder in all caps and/or is it 76K bytes long?

Does Vegas start fine the first time but seem to hang when you exit Vegas and start it a second time *in the same Windows session*?

If so then you may be a candidate for this solution:

P.S. - I have a Canon scanner but this worked for someone with an HP scanner. Perhaps you have or have had some kind of Twain device in the past such as a digital camera?
