error message!!!!

i tried opening a project i've been working on only to recieve the message, "error occurred while loading the project-the item was not found" what can I do to get this information back?

locate the file that is missing and point it to that file. This can occur do to moving a referenced file or deleting a referenced file or corruption of the referenced file. Just find where you moved and point vegas to that file or have it to search for it.

no, a file isn't missing, rather, the whole project won't open-----it's not a relocate message. Any ideas?

May not help, but I had a Vegas 7 project crashing Vegas during the opening process. Turns out, as soon as it hit a corrupt file half-way through the opening process, BANG, error message and crash.

SMS tech support was helpful. They suggested renaming the folder where all the media were located. Then reopen the project. When the dialogue box popped up saying it couldn't find the media, check the "ignore missing files and keep offline" or words to that effect. Now the project has all ghosted media. Then within the Project Media window, individually replace the media, one at a time, with the same named media in the newly named folder. You do this by right clicking on the media, choose "Replace", and point to the new folder.

I rebuilt the whole project and ended up being able to identify the corrupt file this way--in about an hour. Saved me from having to re-do 3 days of work. Strangely, the corrupt file, a DV .avi file played fine in WMP.

If it's a corrupt media file that's causing your crash, this approach might work for you.
