error message "hardware faiure contact vendor"

I keep getting the blue screen of death "hardware faiure contact vendor" about 5 minutes into capturing DV video from my camcorder. I am running wxp sp2 on a 3.2ghz pentium with 512k memory. I am saving the files to my 120g slaved hard drive. I tried saving them to my master hard drive as well and still got blue screen. I found this cool little program called WinDV that will caputre my DV video which I then edit with Vegas 5.0. I am still curious why the capture program that comes with my $500!!!! software keeps crashing my entire system. Any one else having this issue?

Yeah... I get that all the time... :-)

Kidding.... Nope.. never had that problem.. never heard anyone here post such a problem. Definitely something is seriously wrong. I have no ideas why your WinDV program works and Vegas does not.

Recommend you try a few other programs to capture - just to narrow it down a little. Ttry using Windows Movie Maker and also Scenalyzer (google to find).

Other thing is to re-install Vegas.

Windows movie maker captures just fine. Only problem is that the captured file has no sound in Vegas. For that reason I don't think it's my PC. Why does it only happen with Vegas. Not a big deal, I just have to use another program to capture my video, just kind of irritating if you know what I mean.

I can appreciate the irritation and there is no reason why it should have to stay this way. As I said (and as you already know) SOMETHING is very seriously wrong.

The fact that WMM does not capture audio is also an indication that something is wrong. If you are capturing via firewire the audio should just be there.

Have you tried re-installing Vegas?

Do you have any other capture devices attached to your computer?
