Error message when dragging video to track

outanorm wrote on 10/24/2009, 9:52 PM
I recently wrote here about not having audio. On advice from forum achives,I just updated to Vegas Movie Studio 9b. My video clips now seem to have voice tracks with them, thank you very much. But now when I try to drag a video clip and its accompanying audio clip to the tracks, I immediately get an error message that reads An error occurred during current opetation. An exception has occurred. And then poof! Vegas Movie Studio shuts down and disappears. I went back in the archives and found no help. My clips come from my computer via my Sony DCR-DVD810.

You have a dvd camcorder?
Then use File->Import DVD Camcorder disc.

I tried this after reading your suggestion. I do not record to a DVD, rather a mem stick, but Iother than that, imported through Vegas as you described. Got same message. I copied details of message, hoping there are clues within. Thank you. Error message details follow.

I think I recall reading that you have to import your memory stick media using Motion Picture Browser rather than Vegas directly. Give that a try. I have no experience with it so maybe someone else can help you.
outanorm wrote on 10/25/2009, 12:14 PM
Picture Motion Browser comes w/cam software. I was importing through PMB before I tried your suggestion, same results. I can also record directly to cam's internal harddrive. Are you suggesting that where the video is recorded to within the cam would make a difference?
musicvid10 wrote on 10/25/2009, 12:26 PM
Yes, the recording media used would affect the import method. If you are unable to import using the bundled software or take the files directly off your media stick, I suggest you wait for a response from someone who has experience with your particular camera model. Good luck!

Flash memory "EPROM" (your stick) does require different drivers than does reading/writing RAM. It's also inherently much slower access. I have no idea though if this is your problem.

I don't have any direct knowledge of how to fix this problem, but if you Google "mcdddec.dll", there seem to be several posts that may provide insight to this problem: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us&q=mcdddec.dll&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

Thanks for these links. This absolutely sounds like my problem and info within those links makes the problem seem less unique than before. When I first posted here, I also contacted Sony via the free email support but I have not heard back. Do they ever respond? I don't know how to delete and reinstall .dll's or whatever. Seems I can have video and no audio without the Vegas 9b update or I can have video and audio that shut down the program with the update. I started out so excited and now feel stuck.

There must be someone with your camera who knows how to import the memory stick files.

You might also post your question in the Pro forum, explaining that you have VMS and are trying to import from memory stick.
outanorm wrote on 10/27/2009, 7:19 PM
To see if the problem is related to memory stick, tomorrow I will record to my cam's hard drive and import clips from there. I would be thrilled to be able to import clips from anywhere.
