Error message while trying to burn DVDs

Hi there,

I have a problem with DVDA not burning DVDs and have to use third party software like Nero to burn an iso image. The error occurs during the rendering process. A screen capture of the error message is shown when you put the following link into your browser http://screencast.com/t/Oc5d5ONn

I thought it might have been my DVD burner and changed it for a new LG one but still get the same problem. Does anyone have an idea what this error message means please and what I need to do to rectify the problem so I can burn standard 4.7gb DVD-Rs again direct from DVDA5.

It would appear that for what ever reason DVDA can not send the necessary write information to the DVD burner to write the disc?

I also have Sony Movie Studio Platinum version 10 which has the ability to burn DVDs direct from the time line but that won't let me burn DVDs either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks
Steve

Have you by any chance got the 64-bit version of Windows 7? Interface problems between 32-bit programs and 64-bit drivers can often cause this.

Especially since you seem to be able to create your Prepared Files but can not interface with the burner for the final phase.

Have you checked the LG site for the latest drivers and firmware? That may help.

(If you upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista or XP, this could definitely be the problem. Especially if LG hasn't created any W7 drivers yet and you're just using generic Windows drivers.)

Many thanks for your reply Steve. I'm running on XP Pro so that may be the problem?

Yes, I can certainly prepare the VOB files and the ISO image without any trouble so maybe it's time to upgrade to Windows 7!

Thanks for the link but the LG burner is brand new and has the latest firmware. I changed it as the my other one wouldn't work with DVDA either?

Having everything running on the latest verson of Windows with appropriate drivers may well solve the problem. Unfortunately it's a bit like using a sledge hammer to crack a nut but I'll have to put up with it for now. I can stil burn the authored DVD using Nero but it's just a shame I can't burn directly from DVDA.

I don't know if it's necessary to upgrade to Windows 7 to solve this problem, castle. In fact, it may only complicate it!

If you've got the latest drivers from the LG site, then you've done all you can.

Nero is notoriously selfish about sharing hardware. It may be best to just prepare your files in DVD Architect and then let Nero do the actually burning to disc. If you get in their and try to force the issue, you're liable to just end up frustrated.

Thanks for your help Steve.

Yes, looks like I'll just have to use DVDA with Nero as my burning software for now!

I've seen this problem on the Creative Cow forum several times as well but no one seems to know the answer???
