Error on starting Vegas

Stuffed wrote on 8/19/2002, 7:34 AM
I am running Windows 2000 Pro on my computer and installed VV3. When I attempt to run VV3, an error message appears that states: "vegas30.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." I have tried uninstalling it and installing it onto a different drive but the same thing happends. If anyone has any suggestions on this issue, your help would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance. or email me at weput@hotmail.com

Do you have an ATI video display card? If you do, and you have their recently-released Catalyist 2.2 drivers, that could be the problem. Rolling back to 2.1 seems to fix this for everybody.

If you don't have an ATI, please say so and we'll take it from there...

Ok sorry about the lack of information,
I have a NVIDIA GetForce2 MX\MX400 Video card, and I use a Texas Instruments OHCI IEEE 1394 Firewire Card to capture.(The capture side of vegas still works but only if I use the Vidcap30.exe icon)
I have also in the last week or so installed the windows service pack3 for win2000 but Vegas was working fine even after the service pack was installed.
I have tried removing the service pack but its still the same
Thanks for you help so far

Hmm. okey, got the same problem (the exactly the same error) here when trying out the demo available of version 3.0c. Running Windows 2000 with SP3 using Matrox G400 board. Also tried out with version 3.0b that came along on a CD. Same problem with both versions.

Think that we both are open for suggestions ;-)

strange- I am right now running demo 3.0c, Windows 2000/SP3 Matrox G400, no problems. Try turning video display hardware accelleration to none- same problem?
khaverblad wrote on 8/20/2002, 12:40 PM
hmm okey, I'm using Matrox certified drivers version 5.72.21.0. Upgraded to the latest version for G400 and disabled hardware acceleration; didn't make any difference same error.

Ok tried disabling the display hardware acceleration still the same problem,
updated the drivers for the video card but that didn't make any difference,

Stuffed, I am at a loss.

Khaverblad: try uninstalling the Hauppauge software, at least temporarily, and try Vegas again. We've seen some problems with Hauppauge drivers in the past if I recall correctly.

Maybe try posting the same info on the Vegas forum at creativecow.net- lots of system tweakers and builders hang out there.
khaverblad wrote on 8/21/2002, 2:43 PM
Nope, de-installing the Hauppauge drivers didn't make the trick, same error. I've also posted the question at Creative Com Forums as well ( http://www.creativecow.net/forum/read_post.php?postid=102996007759250&forumid=24 )

Well, today I also tried to pull out the Hauppauge PVR board. So the system hasn't no drivers or anything installed for the H-PVR and no board. But, still the same error occurs. So I would say that the current error has nothing to do with the H-PVR board. I then also de-installed VV3 rebooted and re-installed VV3, same error.

Ok, next thing to try: download and install DXMAN from http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/dxman.htm

This utility lets you add/remove/hide DirectX audio plug-ins, one of which might be causing Vegas to fail during startup. If you can't get past the splash screen, it could definitely be a rogue plug-in will need to be removed. Start by removing the non-SF plug-ins, sorted by brand- worth a try.

Thanks for sticking with it- and good luck.
khaverblad wrote on 8/22/2002, 10:39 AM
How much is there to remove if VV3 was installed on a new scratch installation of Win2k and nothing else.

If you have installed Vegas on a totally clean system, there will be nothing to remove. If you have DXMAN, what does it list for plug-ins?
khaverblad wrote on 8/22/2002, 12:48 PM
Well, it actually lists a bunch of plugins (as it should since Win2k also made through the Win Update parts as well updating the media player and DirectX to version 8.1 etc.); but is there anything particular that you want me to check for ? Or is there any way to dump out the list that DXMan creates in a text file?
