error preparing blu-ray disk

wslagter@nc.rr.com wrote on 4/8/2009, 12:55 PM
Vista 32bit
DVD-A ver.5.0a build173)
I try to prepare 2 files (3GB and 4GB) imported into DVD-A.
Prior to preparing the project ,I got a warning message:
" The overall bitrate for Menu is greater than 28Mbps.The overall bitrate is too high for burning blu-ray onto DVD." My Mbps is set to 40.0 (max for blu-ray burning. Since this is a warning message ,I continue with preparing but 5 min before finishing ,the preparing stops and a error message comes up:
" Status:FS Component::CImage File::IOerror-it failed in creating the image file_there is not enough space on the disk"
I use 25GB BD.

Any help appreciated!

Not sure, but I think the IMage file is being created on your harddrive. How much space do you have on your work harddrive?

I use a 500GB external HD with 230GB free space left.

Make sure this external drive is formatted NTFS. Drives come from the factory formatted as FAT32, which has a file size limit that can cripple video production.

Fortunately, you can change the formatting with little risk to the data that's there now.

The File System on my external drive is NTFS (Default) .I did not change that since new.
Other option is exFAT

Is this the drive that DVDA is set up to write it's temp files?

Just wanting to make sure because I have had it write to my system drive when I didn't change the settings.

.
the default prepare folder is my external work drive

However, , the Temporary files folder was indeed my C :\ system drive.
Well, that might be the problem.
Appreciate your help. Thanks !

I did change the DVD-A temp to the externa drive but the same error message still comes up .
BTW, even my system C:\ drive had still 220GB free space when that previously my temp folder.
Anyather suggestions what might cause this error message ?

Okay back to basics,

How long are the videos you are trying to burn?
Are they already encoded to a Blu-ray format or are you letting DVDA encoded them?

The videos are appox.3 and 4GB long ,disk space used showing 7.6 GB in DVD-A. I did render them in Vegas Pro 8 as blu-ray.
Herewith my settings I use :

VEGAS PRO 8 :
Project Properties:
Template:HD 1080-24p (1920x1080,23,976 fps)
Field order: None (progressive)
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.0000 (square)
Output rotation: 0 deg. (original)
Frame rate:23.976 (IVTC Film)
Pixel format 8-bit (project crashes with 32-bit floating)
Full resolution rendering quality: Best
De-interlace method: Blend fields

Rendered as:
Type: Main Concept MPEG-2
Template:Blu-ray 1920x1080-24p,25Mbps videostream
Custom-> Video-> include videostream
I-frames:15
B-frames:2
Profile:Main
Level:high
Field order:None (progressive)
Video quality: 31 (High)
Variable Bit Rate: 2-pass

DVD-A
Disc format Blu-ray Disc
Target size (GB) 25
Video format: Mpeg-2
Bit rate(Mbps): 40 (Max)
Resolution: 192x1080
Frame rate: 23.976 progressive

AUDIO formats are AC-5.1 Surround

I will try that . Thanks.
I rendered in Vegas Pro8 with Custom Template videoquality 31 (high) and variable bit rate (max 30).
If I render in DVD-A at 28 Mbps, quality will be downgraded? or can I just skip the rendering in DVD-A and go directly to preparing->burning ?

I wonder why the Vegas Pro8 Template: Blu-ray 1920x1080-24p 25Mbps videostream is limited to 25 Mbps. Can't the blu-ray rendering go to 40 Mbps ? In DVD-A you can ( if you get it to work ..)
