I have a avi clip in my project, just one big long track because i want to convert it to the mpeg format. After about 5 minutes of rendering, a dialog box appears "an error has occured, unknown cause of problem" or something in that manner. Anybody know whats wrong? Im using the Main-Concept Mpeg1 codec

are you rendering with VV?

did you place any effects/transitions in your project....if so try remove the transition and render the portion of the project that you are getting the error on.....if it's in the same spot all the time

I had an experience with that error in the pass. I was receiving it on EVERY single rendering attempt, in every method. It ended up being an issue with temperature.

How is your temperatures, specifically your CPU?

I would imagine if you are well under 140 F you should not having an issue with heat.

Let me know,

nope, it not a heat problem, i live in sacramento and its about 80 degrees F normally, and no transitions are applied, I tried isolating the area, its not JUST ONE area, its numerous

What happens if you use a stand alone converter to convert the AVI to MPEG and bring it back into your project to render as MPEG? Do you get the same issue?

Or, another way to put this....do you get the same issue if the video you are using isn't an AVI?

Video6000: Are you running Vegas 4.0c?

I've seen a similar message when one of the folders Vegas wants to use is on a HDD that is nealy full. In my case I think it was the pre-render folder.

Took a bit to track it down.
