Error - Stream could not be read

While working in Video Factory I am starting to get the above referenced error. When I place a clip into the Trimmer the program atempts to build an Audio Proxy File. In the past this has not been a problem. Now I get the error, "Stream Could Not be Read", at the end of the building process. Does anyone know what causes this? Each time I open my project the program atempts to build a proxy file, but it is unsucessful. I am still able to playback my project, but now it is choppy, not as smooth as before. Will this affect my final cut when I render the project?

Apollo25, I have been recently receiving the same error messages that you are referring to during the audio proxy building. I have not seen any other info on this site. Any progress/solutions/work arounds?

Thanks!

what kind of file are you trying to load?

I am simply loading files that I captured from a Sony digital camcorder TRV510. I had to break the video into two files due to the 4 GB limitation. I have DirectX 8.0 and Win 98SE. Thanks. I may simply attempt to re-capture the video and try to load it again unless this is a common problem.

I have 2 small avi files which VF or VV won't recognize. It will pull in the audit, but says that "Video: Stream attributes could not be determined". These were captured with a Canon Powershot Pro90IS digital camera. One is 29secs and one is 11secs.

Any ideas?

Micheal, I'm having the same problem with avi's from 2 different cameras. Any resolution yet?

Hi
This is my first post.
I have the same problem using Vegas Movie Studio 7
I have discovered that the files I use (From a Pentax Optio s40) have info in them related to MJPG (Motion JPG). This to me seems to be the problem. VMS just won't find this video stream info (or ignores it).
When you right click for the contex menu in VMS from it's explorer and select Open Media in Player (Windows Media Player) it plays fine.

The codec info was found by using (GSpot).

When I load the same file into (VirtualDB) and save as an avi file the codec info is changed and the steam is OK for VMS and the file loads and plays.

I could be wrong here but it looks like a codec problem with VMS
