Error Trying to Capture Video

Hi,

My setup:

- Sony DCR-PC120 camcorder
- 1394 both on the motherboard and an Adaptec DuoConnect PCI card
- Windows XP Professional (account has administrator privileges)
- Sony Vegas Movie Studio version 6.0b, build 126
- Sony Video Capture 6.0b, build 288

My problem:

I select Capture Video from the File menu. I get a split second of both audio and video, and then I get this error message:

"An error occurred while capturing from the device."

Clicking on Details, I get this:

"The operation cannot be performed because the pins are not connected."

I have tried connecting through both ports, but I get the same error. I was able to capture the video through another application, but always get this error using Vegas.

I've tried playing around with various options, but no matter what, I always get the same error. Also tried removing Vegas and re-installing, but still the same error.

It knows the camcorder is there, the play, rewind, etc. controls all work, but the video capture won't work. What can I do?

If there are any more details I can supply that would help, just let me know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tom

You can waste lots of your time trying to use the VMS capture app (which is seriously flakey IMO) or you can get something decent to do capture like Scenalyzer.

From what I've seen over the last few years in these forums, is that the capture app provided by VMS and Vegas either works or it doesn't, and while most of the time it usually works, if it doesn't work in your environment, then there's really not much you can do about it. Just my opinion.
