I'm using SMS Platinum v 12, on a fairly new i7 machine, Windows 8 (not 8.1), 64-bit. Periodically, and erratically, I cannot open an audio clip for external edit (Goldwave v5.68), even though I have the relevant check applied to the Preferences tab which is supposed to allow this operation. The most maddening thing is that it often works just fine, even multiple times in a row. But often, it gives the following error screen:
"Movie Studio Platinum is currently using the media File(s) so they cannot be closed. Try stopping playback, stopping recording, and any external timecode synchronization."
I am NOT playing back, or recording anything, nor is any external timecode involved (AFAIK). I've tried various work-arounds, such as min & maximizing SMS just prior to the edit attempt, selecting a clip far away from the desired clip just prior to the edit attempt, with only limited success. Bottom line is that I should not be getting the error in the first place.
Could my multi-core processor somehow be causing SMS to confuse just what operation is currently being addressed, at any given moment in time? I'm at wit's end here. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks, DFF
