I am a new beginner type user trying to create my first holiday dvd shot with jvc cam corder . Scenes are in several folders . have successsfully created first 10 minute timeline from first folder but when i try and import media and open next folder i get error message 'an error occurred while opening 1 or more files . the file is an unsupported format . The program then shuts down . I use a Sony vaio with vista and just bought software last week . Sony technical page patially addresses my problem but talks mainly about Sound forge being a problem which i am not aware i have. In any event i am only trying to work on the video not the sound.
Any helpmuch appreciated

What kind of files are they? What format does the camcorder record? How did you get them into your computer?

Thanks for your interest
The software that comes with the camcorder is called Power cinema NE for Everio. I read the files into the computer direct from the card. The individual files are titled eg movo5B.MOD followed by others all ending with MOD.
Occasionally I have spotted a suffix SFK as well

Vegas Movie Studio 8/9 are able to read MOD files. You just need to do three things:
1. Make sure you run the latest free update of your Vegas version.
2. Make sure you capture the files from the camera with Vegas, not with the Everio app.
3. If the clips were shot in widescreen, you need to select them in the project media placeholder and set their widescreen aspect ratio there, because MOD files have a broken attribute regarding aspect ratios and so Vegas won't recognize them as such.
