Error when trying to load .veg file, help?

dara-c wrote on 4/13/2025, 9:56 AM

Hello, I am on VEGAS Pro 22.0, on a Windows 10 PC.

I have a video I have been working on for a month now, and 2 days ago I remember vividly saving the project as a .veg file before I turned off my PC, and it updated throughout the night, the next day when I opened the project this following error; "An error occurred while loading the project file mh.veg. The item was not found" (also attached below). I did read on another post about the .bak files and the .sfk stuff, I tried loading them on, but it's just the original media that I already have saved, not the edited footage. All the original media is on my PC and hasn't been deleted, I really hope there's a solution to this because this is 1 month of work.. I'll attach everything below. I'll try to provide any info I'm asked for, thank you for reading.

@dara-c Hi, each of the files in this pic have file extension .sfk, .bak etc. but your veg file doesn't, it should have .veg at the end. .. Why it still shows as a blue V thumbnail without the added .veg extension & why your .bak file doesn't show as blue a blue V is intriguing. .

------------

The thumbnails should look like this eg. (& you might want to turn off show file extensions if it's ticked, that way the extension doesn't get deleted by accident when renaming files)

@Gid : Possibly @dara-c has this setting that explains the project not showing ".veg" :

It might help if dara-c shows "properties" for the project file and for the .bak file, maybe the other files too.

Is it strange that the .sfk and .sfap0 files are named in relation to mh.veg.bak? Or does that just result from trying to open the .bak file?

@Gid @bvideo , Hi!! Thanks for your replies I really appreciate the help since this is very important to me, I'll upload the properties below, and I did attempt to open something @bvideo, you are right the .bak file in specific as I heard it auto saves data etc, however as I mentioned it's just the original media without the edits I made.

Sorry if there is any repeating or missing stuff, I lost track of what I screenshotted, lol. If you need any other info please do ask I'll happily give it.

@dara-c are you logged into your computer with a Microsoft account? If so go to onedrive online and search for your veg file there, likely in a documents folder. This helped me once when I deleted a veg file in error. (also check recycle bin in onedrive and on your desktop)

Ahh I have an account but never synced because I am 8,5 GB and its a 5 GB limit.. so I am not sure that'd still work

Can't see any reason mh.veg could not be found by Vegas. You did access it to get properties. Can you access it by ctrl-C (copy) and then ctrl-V (paste) to a new name? Can Vegas open the copy?
