Error While Rendering M2T mpeg-2

Jim H wrote on 11/22/2006, 8:55 PM
I've made several attempts to render a half hour HD project and each time the result is an error message. The error comes after 8 or 9 hours of rendering. The last error occurred at 90% complete and gave me the message pasted in below. After I hit OK Vegas 7 disappears.

I'm trying to render to the MainConcept MPEG-2 HDV 1080-60i template with no changes from the default with hopes that I could then print that M2T file to tape. I tried printing directly from Vegas using the print to tape option but that crashes too. The partial file plays fine and I am able to print it to tape, but what the hey?

The project is a series of nested veg files with no added effects or anything beyond what's happening within the nested veg's themselves.

Is this a known problem with V7? Are there any work arounds? Anyone?

Thanks.

In the mean time: If I load the 90% partial render M2T file on the timeline in a new project and tack on the remaining nested veg, will the quality of the re-rendered 90% m2t video suffer? i.e. second generation loss? I'm thinking this may be the only way to get the full thing to tape...unless I try to edit the last 10% in camera... ouch...sounds like editing 15 years ago.

Try some simple things first. Defrag you HD and make sure you have plenty of empty space on it. Run your virus / spy-ware suite and run check-disk on the drive. (I uses Windows Live OneCare does all this at once). Reinstall Vegas (never hurts). Look for bad spots in the veg. I know that with a spot of blank time-code or corrupted video (if only a frame) has halted m2t capture for me before so it might cause render to go into a loop. Finally send the error log you posted to Sony tech. guys.

Also, I've found nested vegs seem to suck more memory than video on the timeline. Turn your Dynamic RAM preview down to say 128 (if it's higher) to free up more ram for the render.

Thanks guys. Just defragged a couple days ago. Have rendered each veg individually without problem. Just completed re-render from one partial m2t file and the one remaining veg and it was successful after many hours of render (mostly just for that last 10% veg that was remaining on the timeline). No virus or spyware on this machine.

Any info on the second generation m2t that I used? Does Vegas copy the code or does it really re render? Generation loss?

After replying a few days ago like I knew what I was talking about, today after installing and then removing Nero7, I had the exact same problem! When I render to m2t (using the same settings as the original poster or 720p) it renders to 18% and then hangs! Vegas becomes unresponsive. Who is successfully rendering to m2t? Post your settings please. I wish to render to m2t because the color space seems to match Vegas exactly and I don't get the washed-put color issue as with WMV.

"Who is successfully rendering to m2t?"

I do all the time. I use it prior to print to tape so that I don't hold my camera up 8 hours for rendering. I have Nero 7 also, so you can't pinpoint it to just that. I use the unaltered Main Concept MPEG2 HDV 1080-60i template.

Try rendering with Windows Task Manager open to monitor CPU and page file usage. Right-click the Windows task bar and select Task Manager, then select the Performance tab to see what is happening when it hangs.

I am having the exact same problem with Vegas 7.

Interestingly I loaded an HD file into Vegas 5 with properties set up for an HD file and attempted to render out an MPEG file and got a similar error to same situation in Vegas 7.

I have e-mailed tech support with this error in Vegas 7 but no response yet.
