Error while scrolling media window, WinMe

adelac wrote on 11/24/2001, 12:57 AM
My error message problem occurs under the following conditions:
I load a project and when I scroll through the media window the message appears (as described below).
The problem is consistent, it happens every time.
First time I had this problem was when I installed Pinnacle Express software. When I unistalled PE the problem was fixed.
Recently I connected my Laptop on which I do video editing to my desktop computer with a crossover cable. I used networking wizard for software setup. After that the problem reappeared. It happens regardless of the other computer being on or off (network working or not). Please note I haven’t installed any new hardware or drives.

My computer: Dell Inspirion 8100, 1.13GHz, 30GbHD,256RAM
From Australia, PAL Projects

Judging by the name of the dll files (i.e., mirodvun.dll and mirodv2avi.dll) I would assume there are leftovers from the Pinnacle Express install since
Miro used to be Pinnacle's "home" users brand.

I've never used Pinnalce Express so I can only speculate what is left over. I've found that most uninstallers don't uninstall codecs or do a good job cleaning the registry. Perhaps Pinnacle uses a custom DV codec?

In any case, I would check for a Pinnacle (or Miro) codec (go to Control Panel\Multimedia\Devices\Video Compression Codecs). If there is one, delete it.

Also, Pinnacle has a registry cleaner for you to use at:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/regdelete.exe

Hope this helps.

I think I had the same error a while back. Go under Preferences and check

"Always use Sonic Foundry DV reader"

This fixed it for me and actually gave me a better preview.

Many thanks, Dave's "Always use Sonic Foundry DV reader" did the trick.

Thanks again.
