scottshackrock wrote on 7/28/2004, 1:04 PM
This error is given when I try to load my project, which exited and saved fine an hour ago.

An error occurred while loading the project file freetobepart2.veg. The file could not be created. Another file with that name exists.

PLEASE help!!! We need to finish this video by tonight, and start mixing it down. Otherwise it will be bad bad news...ha! And please dont tell me that we've lost it....

Check out this thread: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=297330

In that case the user had somehow created two bins with identical names. I don't know if there was any resolution or not.

In the meantime, look for a .bak version of your .veg file. Vegas automatically creates one when saving, so you'll have the previous version of your project there. You may lose whatever edits you made during the last editing session, but it beats starting over from scratch.

did you have vegas autosave? Maybe you can go back to a different one (it looks like a problem with the media generator, but every time i try to edit the file it won't even try loading).

I've fixed it up for you, Customer Support will email the repaired project to you tomorrow.

The problem was that you had a bin named "Other" and one named "OTHER". This is a bug, Vegas should not have allowed you to create a second bin with the exact same name except it is in uppercase (I was able to do this when I tried it). I have bugged this in our database but it's something you'll need to be careful about for now.

Edit: Just noticed that it was an emergency so I've emailed the repaired project to you directly.

oh my god i love you so much, seriously thanks so much.

I am making this video for an international camp and the kids leave friday morning! I need to start mixing down so this is a HUGEEEEEe help - otherwise the kids would not get it in time for their plane. THANKS SO MUCH

I will await your email!

You should have received it. I used the email address you associated with your forum account (accessible to Sony employees). If that is not your preferred email, please post it.

Note: use "at" instead of "@", etc. for posting email addresses on this forum so the web-bots trolling for email addresses don't put you on their spam lists.

yep, i had been checking the wrong email. I got it and it works perfectly, thanks so much.

just another quick question:
If this were ever to happen again, is there anyway I could open up the project and fix this problem myself? Or is this something that can only be done by you guys?

THANKS AGAIN!!!!

> If this were ever to happen again, is there anyway I could open up the project and fix this problem myself?

Sorry, no.

All I can suggest is doing either/both of the following:

1) take a quick look to make sure there aren't any bins with the same name, ignoring case, before you save/close the project

2) after saving the project (don't shut down Vegas just yet), open another instance of Vegas, make sure your recently saved project loads OK (should be in the most recent projects list near the bottom of the File menu)

SonyTSW, what's with the greyed out "Save as Bin" option? How do I make it active and what will it make a "Bin" from?

Grazie

Don't know, I'll have to investigate.

Where are you seeing this? If you are in the trimmer, then you can save a selection as a subclip.

Hiyah,

Yes . .. Media Pool>Right Click Bin OR Media Bins OR All Media and you get a drop down [ Pop Up ] menu with "Save as Bin" .. .

Grazie

It has to do with the results of searching the media bins.

useful tip: when you hold the mouse over a menu item (even if it is grayed out), the status bar at the bottom shows a description of what that menu item does -- this is how I discovered what "Save as bin" actually does

For that menu item, the description says "Saves the current search results as a new media bin". So I did a search (had media in the media pool, searched on something I was sure it would find). Now I have a new item listed with my search results. Right click on that item and now "Save as bin" is no longer grayed. When I selected that menu choice, Vegas created a new bin ("New Media Bin") that contained the media in search results.

.. Excellent! . . Bit like when you roll over the "padlock" in Text Media where it says "Sync Cursor" ? -- but there you can't?

I'll remember the additional help line at the bottom of the screen,
