Error with WMV9 VBR

Shredder wrote on 8/13/2003, 10:17 AM
I'm getting the following error whenever I try to save a Windows Media 9 file using VBR or VBR Peak settings:

"An error occurred while creating the media file out.wmv. Error 0xc00d002b (message missing)"

I searched the forum and SonicDennis suggests that this is a missing codec, however I have no issues encoding (or decoding) with the same settings using Microsoft's WM Encoder. The nature of my video is a slideshow, so i'd REALLY benefit from VBR vs. CBR

WM9 CBR works fine.

I got this error on 2 different boxes.

I also re-downloaded the codecs from Microsoft, but still no luck.

I'm using VV4.0d/205

Please help!

No problems rendering WM here with 4.0d. What are your project settings and exact render settings?

WMV9

Project
-- Vid render qual - Best

Audio
-- Include
-- Mode: CBR
-- Format: WMA 9 Voice
-- Attr: 20kbps, 22kHz, mono

Video
-- Mode: Bit rate VBR
-- Format: WMV9 Screen
-- Image Size (Keep Original Size) [1280x1024]
-- Frame Rate: 1.000
-- Sec per keyframe: 15
-- Avg bps: 128 K

Bit rate (all greyed)

Index/Summary (all blank)

I get the same error even with a standard NTSC DV 720x480 blank project with a single generated media event, so i don't think the size or source format is the issue.

"screen" seems to be the issue, so we'll have to dig into that. For now, try using the WMV 9 (non screen) video format- results should be pretty close.

Thanks... Just so you know, "screen" is optimized for screenshot type slideshows, and i'm using this to capture/edit demos of my software...

I tried regular WMV9 (non screen) and it does indeed work.

Please keep us posted on the WMV9/Screen support

I had 4.0d crash on me every time I would use the scrubbing feature above 2.25x playback. The solution? I had to uninstall Vegas 4, then reinstall 4.0d (as opposed to upgrading the 4.0c one). The downside was that I lost my custom rendering settings and custrom settings for FX. Maybe Sony (SoFo?) could add a "export to file" option for custom settings.

The WMV 9 Screen codec can only be used when the mode setting in the video page is either CBR or Quality VBR. The other mode options perform two-pass processing of the video, which the screen codec does not support.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
