Errors Rendring to WMV

Richiedude wrote on 12/3/2002, 11:33 AM
Whenever I try to render to WMV files I keep getting this error in a messagebox: 0x00d0bc2

This happens for both Vegas Video and Batch converter. This used to work perfectly for me but seems not to anymore. I'm using Vegas 3.0c/Windows Media player 7.1/WinME.

What the hell is going on here? Why would this suddenly....not work anymore and give me this error?

Have you installed (or uninstalled) any software on your machine since you were able to successfully render to WMV?

This is the same error code that some users were seeing on some WinXP SP1 systems. You might want to try downloading and running the same update from Microsoft. Let us know if this fixes the problem.

Problem with the FIX now! Sure it fixes the rendering of windows media files, but, now I get an error whenever I try to view an MPG file within or linked from Internet Explorer ver6. I did NOT have this problem immediately before installing the fix. I do NOT have the problem when viewing an MPG file locally without IE. Please try this test here after you install the fix.

We will try to reproduce the problem here. Will post again with our findings.

Thanks for the heads up Geezer! I had no idea this problem existed, but I recieved the exact same error message trying to use IE to play one of those mpg files. I have no idea how long it's been like this. I usually don't use IE to play mpegs.

XP w/SP1/WMV patch installed.

I just successfully played an mpeg1 on the other XP PC in IE, which did NOT need the WMV patch for VV. Interesting!

HI all,

Sorry to inform you guys that you have been bitten by the XP SP1 BUG.

NO cure except re-installing the OS again!!!

Bye, ...

Well, I'm not going to do a reinstall of anything.
Mpegs aren't for streaming anyway. I noticed that if you just DL any mpeg first, then "open with IE", it plays fine.....no error message or crash of IE. This will do fine for me.
I'm just glad to be made aware of it.

I dont think it is SP1 for XP, because I had SP1 prior to installing that fix and viewing MPGs, MPA's, etc was fine with SP1...perhaps the "fix" has a bug in it. I also installed WMP ver9 and even the encoder9 candidate release, same problem. I really dont want to reinstall XP. Im just assigning mpg's to RealPlayer now. Microsoft newsgroup sysop says its a video card driver problem, but my drivers are the latest. who knows.
