ESPN Player Highlight

Can someone share with me how ESPN makes the round circles on the same axis as the floor/field around the players feet? I have tried cookie cutter but that does the whole person and when I try to change the axis using the 3D option, the circle is lost when it hits the degree with the floor.

Any thoughts?

Expensive real time software and hardware. :)

Basically, they know the angle of the field to the camera and can make the overlay "on" the ground. Most software we would use does this in non-real time. IE 3D motion tracking software can do this.
