Even if you don't know me - I'm stupid

As I was trying to get the transitions and effects to show up when clicking on the effects icon on a film clip (Movie Studio 9), I tried uninstalling - reinstalling everything (Movie Studio, DVDA, & Sound Forge) and deleting the Sony folders in Program Files (I thought by getting rid of everything that reinstalling the current upgrade of Movie Studio 9 would only install the necessary components to run the three programs).

So, here is where I am: Movie Studio (Platinum 9) opens but there are no effects/transitions in the plug-in chain; DVDA will not open at all - it just hourglasses for a few seconds and that's it; and Sound Forge starts to open, but when the loading sentences at the bottom of the splash screen gets to VST plug-ins, it stops loading completely.

I know I screwed this up, so I'm not going to say, "Spend all this money on a program and it doesn't work blah...blah..blah.."

I'm not optimistic about this working.

Please stop posting the same question over and over again. This is the third time you post within 24 hours the exact same question in this forum.

If no one replied about the specific problem is because it's an unusual problem you are encountering and so we can't help you. Maybe Sony can, so you can just ask for support. If you want to continue talking about it, just use one of your existing threads about the issue, not create brand new threads.

Hi Don,
It would probably help if you posted your systems specs, and where did you get your version: boxed, download, friend, etc., and have you ever had it working at any time? Let us know. Cin

I apologize, but I am trying to figure out why I can't get it to work. I realize I may done things thatI haven't explained very well here, but I can't get past that my Movie Studio Platinum 8 uploaded and worked fine when I bought it a year ago. I just thought the 9 would do the same. In each post I'm trying to explain better what is happening so you knowledgeable people can help me.

It's the CD I ordered from the Sony website. Version 9.0b build 92

The Movie Studio opens and works except the transition/effects are not in the plug-in chain. Also it seems the preview runs slow. I'm defragmenting to see if that helps. The DVDA won't open, even though yesterday I uninstalled the new version, reinstalled DVDA 4.5a from my Movie Studio 8. The program opended and I was able to register it, and then I installed the update of DVDA d (I believe) -- and it worked. BUT, I tried a system restore ( from a suggestion from a forum months ago) , and tried to fix the Movie Studio. This caused the DVDA not to work again. Like I said, I think I screwed it up pretty good.

I keep seeing a post (mainly in the DVDA forum) to "run as administrator" to at least fix the DVDA -- I don't know if this will fix the Movie Studio or forge

thanks Again

Hi Donald

If I understand your first post correctly you click the symbol in the media on the timeline that shows "Event FX..." when you hover the mouse over it?
and when you have clicked it you get the new window "Plug-in Chooser - Video Event FX" but there are no FX's in it??

If so, and when you have tried to un/reinstall it sounds as if something went wrong through the first installation or as if something is wrong with your installation program.

I would propose that you:

1) uninstall totally - not only through Windpws uninstall - but as described here: http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=7Ao4m9Hj&p_lva=&p_li=&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_page=1&p_cv=&p_pv=2.659&p_prods=17%2C659&p_cats=&p_hidden_prods=&prod_lvl1=17&prod_lvl2=659&p_search_text=uninstall&srch_btn_submit=%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0Search%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0&p_new_search=1

2) download the newest Vegas installation (from under "My Account" and "My Software" above)

3) install Vegas from the new download.

4) enjoy your new Vegas :-)

Hi,
I tried to follow the instructions of your link concerning clean uninstall and reinstall.

I didn't have any Sonic Foundry folders. The Microsoft.net Framework 2.0 & 3.0 service pak 2 would not delete from add/remove programs.

As far as I know I turned off all anti-virus programs and I don't know anything about how or where registry blocker are.

I was able to do everything else, but the same problem exists:

DVDA & Sound Forge will not open

Movie Studio Platinum Pak 9 does not have the transitions/effects do not show up in the plug-in chain

I'm at the point where I feel like going back to my Movie Studio 8 version, but I've done so much deleting folders, registries, etc. and uninstalling and installing that I can't even get my older version to show the plug-in chain.

I can't believe everything I've been through and tried and still no success. I guess I'm going to have to pay for support, but I want to try this forum one more time.

Right now I'm at this stage: Based on forum responses and knowledge base stuff, I uninstalled and deleted VMS Platinum 9, DVDA 4.5, and Forge from my user account and installed them on an admin account I created. First I installed my previous VMS Platinum 8, and then I installed the 9 over it. I have the plug-in chain now and DVDA finally opens, BUT DVDA thinks I'm on a 29 day trial, and the NEWBLUE FX logo appears on the transitions and effects. Even if this were fixed, I can't work in the admin account because I don't have access to all my files that are in my USER account.

When I switch to my user account, the program icons appear on the desk top, DVDA tries to open but I get a0x8004e00a, Startup Code 2 error. Forge starts to open but stops (or crashes?). VMS Platinum 9 - NO effects in the plug-in chain. I tried the right-click 'run as' and chose the admin account I created - it doesn't work.

I'm sure as I've tried to follow all the suggestions, I've probably deleted things that maybe I shouldn't have or maybe were unnecessary, but someone has to be able to guide me through a way to get this program to work on my laptop.

Email support from SCS is free.

As I stated in another message thread you started, VMS8 and VMS9 are independent and can be installed at the same time. You can continue to use VMS8 until you get the VMS9 issues sorted out.

It would help if you posted your system specs in your user profile.
