Event Effects not working

For some reason when I put a track or event effect in it does not do anything. For example I put a brightness and contrast FX over the event and adjust the settings and nothing happens. I do have it checked at the top of the video track FX screen and I do have the keyframe in sync with the timeline. Any thoughts?

The two main things that cause this symptom are:

1) You've turned on Split Screen Preview
2) You're adjusting the wrong keyframe

You may have the preview window split screen option set to bypass all video effects and Selected All.

Also, you can "Click the Bypass FX and Envelopes button in the bus track header to bypass all video output effects and bus track envelopes."
