Check the "Split Screen View" button above the preview window.

Mine is not working either. i have emailed tech support and they told me to reset somthing..... but for me this did not work.

here is the blurb from my email from tech support:
Make sure you have reset your software. If you had this window open at
one time, but then accidentally placed it out of your desktop area, or
have docked it into another location, you may not be seeing it when you
prompt for that window to be opened.
To reset your software, click and hold the Ctrl+Shift buttons on your
keyboard, then open your application (while still holding these keys).
Once the software is back up, let go of the Ctrl and Shift buttons.
Open your current project and then open the Text Editing window - do you
see it now?

they have also suggested to de-install and re-install the program - try that -
i will... hope this works for you

Several things can cause this.

1. Follow jetdv's suggestion. That is the most likely.

2. Make sure that you have sync between the cursor on the timeline and the cursor in the plug-in. I have often found myself moving the controls of the plug-in all over the place, only to find that I was changing the keyframe at the beginning of the event, but the cursor on the timeline (which controls what is actually displayed) was at the end of the event, and therefore nothing was happening.

3. Make sure you are looking at the fX for the event that the cursor is over. I make this mistake all the time. I will work on the fX for one event, and will have that same fX assigned to another event. I'll move the cursor on the timeline to that next event and then forget to click on the fX button for that event. The dialog is still displayed, and it is the dialog I am expecting to work on, but it is controlling the fX for a different event.

Note to Sony: It sure would be nice to have a preference that would automatically clear the fX dialog when you click back on the timeline. This is how VideoFactory used to work and I miss it. I realize that Vegas is designed for computers with more screen real estate and therefore has a more modeless UI, but this would eliminate the problem I just described.

There is one other situation where fX can appear to be inoperative, and if I think of it, I'll re-post.
