Event Pan/Crop Solved

I've always had a problem when using Event Pan/Crop when the picture was not proportional to the screen. For example, say you have scanned an 8x10 picture and place that picture on the timeline. You end up with black on both sides of the picture. Now, go to Event Pan/Crop and zoom in on the picture. The content gets larger but stays within the black borders. Of course you can turn on Stretch to Fill Frame but then everyone in the picture is REALLY fat.

I think I have found a solution. When you click on Event Pan/Crop, turn OFF Maintain Aspect Ratio and turn ON Stretch to Fill Frame. Now, turn OFF Lock Aspect Ratio, manually change the size to 720 x 480 (NTSC), and then turn ON Lock Aspect Ratio. Now, when you resize (zoom in or out) it behaves like I expect it to behave, everything seems in the proper proportions, and the black sides don't restrict the picture size. This seems to have worked for ALL photos I have tested whether they are wide or tall.

Is there any way to set this setup as a default? Or am I going about this all wrong? I tried saving a preset but it didn't work and doing these steps manually for every photo is a real pain. Event Pan/Crop has always seem so strange that I've always resorted to using Track Motion instead.

p.s. With this setup, 3DLE also seems to work correctly and is not restricted by the black sides.

p.p.s. Event Pan/Crop appears to use the full resolution of the picture where Track Motion and 3DLE do not. This is easily tested by scanning any page with writing and zooming in on some words. Event Pan/Crop will be clear while Track Motion and 3DLE will be blurry to non-readable.

Right click on the image in the event pan/crop. Select "maintain output aspect". When you zoom in on a still image the image will fill the screen with the correct proportions. At least using VV3c. Hope this helps.

You should be sure you're in the first keyframe before setting output aspect ratio. I also noticed (bug?) that you may at times also need to set output ratio in the last keyframe as well otherwise it don't stick.

Yes, Match Output Aspect - exactly what was needed! Thanks

(Now, if it just defaulted to that!)
