Event volume envelopes wanted. Got Track volume envelopes

TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/16/2003, 11:00 AM
Howdy. I want to use volume envelopes on the event only, not the entire track. I know the track volume envelopes will work, but I would prefer the event ones. I THINK i did it before, but i don't remember, he VEG file is long gone, and i can only get the Track volume envelopes.

Does anyone here know how to get the event ones?

Thanks!

Each event has a uniform volume that you can apply individually. Point the cursor near the top of the event and it will turn into a "pointy finger" icon with an up/down arrow. Click and drag up down to control. This only applies a uniform volume (along with the event edge fadeins and outs).
You can lock the track envelopes to the events too.

I know about "the finger" volume. :) I've also done the locking to event. Never heard of volume envelopes in the events though?

I'm thinking your thinking of "Event Velocity" in the Insert Video Envelope realm.

You're probely right. I've tried for about 30-45 minutes today and couldn't get an event volume envelope.

Thanks anyway for the help guys!

I've suggested this in the past and I think it's a good idea, if I'm understanding you correctly. Yes you can lock the envelopes to an event, copy the event and envelope and paste, but sometimes this isn't what I'm looking for, especially when an envelope spans across a bunch of different events that got edited together. There's currently event envelopes, but the problem with these are that you can't add any points within that envelope. If you could add points to the event envelope, then you could effectively copy that event and have the volume adjustments that you made for that event, no matter where you placed it within your project.

Being able to edit the internal event envelopes would be pretty nice and clean, especially when cutting and pasting events and moving them around. To make it super cool, the envelopes and edits should be such that if the event is a loop that the edits are copied for each iteration of the loop as you drag it out (if you want, need to be an option I think)... I'm getting a headache just thinking about how hard that would be to implement in the software. ;)

I'm wondering if Vegas integration with Sound Forge 7.0 will help in this regard? SF 7.0 has volume envelopes, right? I wonder if track envelope information can be forwarded from Vegas to SF, implemented there, and then brought back as a "take" with all appropriate volume changes implemented.

I don't have 7.0 yet. Just wondering,

jbrawn: i'm sure that would work, except i suspect that when the clip is brought back into Vegas it would no longer have a live envelope. It would merely contain the actual volume changes as a rendered file.

For that matter, this has been possible with older versions of SoundForge (i go back to 4.5). You could bring up the Process / Fade / Graphic screen and apply a volume envelope. These volume changes would then be applied to a new copy of the clip in Vegas.

On a more generalized note, i would certainly like to see event volume envelopes, as well as Track-based Pan/Crop, Event Motion, Track Velocity, Audio event plugins, etc. It would be nice if everything that could be done to a track could also be done to an event, and vice versa.
