Why are software companies so damn stupid?
In some half-ass scheme to try to prevent piriated software they manage to piss-off and chase away paying customers. I will not buy any future Sonic Foundry software because it frankly isn't worth the constant hassle of constantly having to re register it! I'm sick of it. I don't like being made to look like some crook and I've got better things to do then to keep phoning customer "support" for help.
Yesterday I upgraded to XP Pro. It went flawlessly until I rebooted and then Video Factory and ONLY Video Factory refused to run. It did run under XP when first installed, but changing over from FAT32 to NTFS it refuses to run.
So as much as I hated to I had to reinstall. Video Factory isn't smart enough to have a repair utility so whatever corrupted the original install can't be just repaired. So by re installing all my settings including the registration, registry entries and that damn stupid useless MPEG registration number gets wiped. Oh I tired to use the fist full of totally useless registration numbers I was given before, none work. So VF is "working" again, but utterly useless to me until I re register because all I do is MPEG.
So for the THIRD time I'm again cooling my heels unable on a weekend to use a product I paid for.
Perhaps you're wondering why I don't try to get a resigration number off the Internet. For a very good reason. The PC in question don't have access because I'm waiting for wireless which is just around the corner in my area.
So that's why this completely useless scheme gets me so damn mad! I have two choices, either yank the modem card from my other computer, install in the upstairs one just to try to get some damn registration number, then take the modem card out and put it back in my downstairs PC when done or wait again till Monday when no doubt I'll be given a bunch of registration numbers, none that work until maybe the forth or fifth try.
Sonic Foundry if you insist on using such a half-ass scheme at least have someone man the phones on weekends so you don't result in pissing off your customers. I was seriously thinking of upgrading to Vegas Video once the new release came out and I was looking at ACID also. Now I won't ever consider either until someone wakes up and realizes how stupid it is to annoy your customers like this!
BTW for anyone that don't know, Microsoft has put a Activation Scheme in XP. You got 30 days to activate or it stops working. You add more then 3 hardware items you got to activate all over again regardless.
