EX1 MXF Export Problem

YesMaestro wrote on 6/11/2009, 11:51 AM
While I was filming a play this past Saturday, the power went out for a brief second shutting my EX1 off. I turned the camera back on and it asked me if I wanted to restore the card. Since this was the first time this has happened to me, I selected Cancel, not know how long it would take. When I got home, I put the card back in and restored it. Now when I try to export the MXF with the clip browser (I am using the latest version), I get an error. I can view the clip in the browser window but cannot export it. Is there a way to repair the clip?

Thanks, Paul

Try this:

- copy the mp4 clip ALONE to your HDD (using OS tools, not Clip Browser)
- use Clip Browser to "Import" it to another directory on the HDD. This will rebuild the proper BPAV structure
- select the imported mp4 clip, and now try to "Export" it for NLE.
- keep your fingers crossed

Thanks Piotr! That worked. Now I'll know if it ever happens again.

I'm glad it worked, but you better perform restoring if your EX asks you to - you can simultaneously record to the other card (and it doesn't take long, anyway).

I've never used mains power with the EX1 - the battereies last for several hours, so unless you're shooting continuouslyt for that long, I'd stick with battery power. One less wire to trip over, too.

Using mains power to directly power ANY file based recording system is inviting disaster. Twice I'd lost audio recordings because of this. I now drag along a UPS so that when someone trips the main breaker at the venue I've got enough time to shut down the recorder and let it update the FAT.

Thanks for the UPS tip Bob. It was a 3 hour play so I wasn't sure if I could get through it without having to change batteries and per chance miss something.
