Excalibur 2 "Gap Wizard";what am I doing wrong?

Randy Brown wrote on 11/23/2004, 1:29 PM
I select about 30 .JPGs butted up against each other, run Excalibur 2 "gap Wizard with "overlap" checked, "maintain existing overlaps" unchecked and amount set to 1 second. Press okay and they (along with other .JPGs and .AVIs not even selected) disappear.
Any thoughts?
TIA,
Randy

I had the identical experience. Must be doing something incorrectly, too.

Hope Gary sees this and enlightens those of us in the dark.

First time I've heard that one. What specific version of Excalibur and Vegas are you running?

Randy and Jack, two questions:

1) Do you have any command markers in the project? If yes, they will be moved to START at that position. I may need to make that an option.

2) The "other" disappearing pictures - are they on the same track? The gap wizard works with everything on the SELECTED TRACK - not just the selected items.

here's another possibility...

If you've altered the timeline mode, i.e.seconds or frames or any non-default setting for the timeline scale, the gap wizard uses the same format timecode as you've selected. So, if you enter a value not consistent with the format selected, it will lose those jpgs or whatever out in cyberspace.

I don't remember this being the case but you're right. The "disappearing" clips and JPGs were apparently there all along but had jumped to the front of this 30 minute project. I placed the ones I wanted to overlap on another track and it worked. I didn't see them at first because they jumped to the front of the timeline...I don't remember this behavior, is there an option to tell Excalibur to leave them where they are?
Anyway, mystery solved, thanks everyone.

The only way to do this would be to modify the behaviour to also allow only SELECTED events to be used. Once again, it would have to be a new addition to that function.

Thanks, all. Worked for me just like it did for Randy. I didn't realize that the entire track was effected. I moved the jpgs and clips to a track of their own and everything worked as advertised. It's a great utility.
